Our aim at the beginning of this year was to increase our production values on the content we are creating. Everyone is so spoilt for choice when it comes to videos to watch online, especially anything to do with music. So we’ve invested a bunch of money into new gear and have taken a different approach to shoots. Hopefully increasing the interest in the clips we create for our clients.
Our first shoot this year was for Myspace and their secret show for Florence and The Machine. What an amazing talent. One of the most soulful and unique voices I’ve heard in a long time.

I’m always searching for new creative talent to add to the pool of freelancers here at The Grindhouse…especially when they’re this good.
“Violet Parr is a Sydney based photographer, who cut her teeth taking social shots of awkward teens for night club promoters, and while she has since gained a wealth of professional experience, still gets invited to parties that require an out of the box solution to their imaging.
Parr studied advertising and has worked as a digital operator and assistant to photographers in Australia and New York, as well as a director’s assistant in film – developing strong technical and creative skills across a variety of media. Her portfolio borrows from the technical rigour of advertising photography and brings this aesthetic to a more spontaneous and gritty setting.”
Most of September and October was taken up with the production of Josh Pyke’s DVD “At The Lighthouse”. We were involved in putting the whole thing together including the centre piece, a 45 min documentary including 10 acoustic performances.
We took him up to Norah Head on the Central Coast and over two days interviewed and filmed him performing a collection of his songs from the last 5 years. I had never met Josh or in fact had much to do with his music but this project has turned me into quite the fan, in fact he won over a few members of The Grindhouse team. A true professional, great songs and a funny cat as well.
I’m a big advocate of fan interaction so with this DVD we set out to include a section that showcased questions for Josh from his fans, fan photos, cover versions and film clips made by fans.
DVD is out now and we wish him the best of luck with it.
